The Go Team supports and promotes a variety of mission activities to share Jesus with people everywhere—”in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Specific Local Missions

Food Drives

SCM has two annual food collections to help feed our community, which are distributed through Our Daily Bread.  On Peanut Butter Sunday every year in November, we collect hundreds of jars of peanut butter as a valuable source of protein for our Spring City residents. We also have an annual Souperbowl Sunday, where the Sunday School classes even compete to see who can donate the most soup to feed our community!  Various other collections of food or supplies are available throughout the year to help support other community needs, as well as nonprofit organizations and individuals involved in local mission work.

Community Needs

In addition to the missions noted above, SCM is actively involved in supporting the residents of North Rhea County where we live. This work is carried out by groups and individuals within and outside of the congregation such as Toys for Tots, Coats for Kids, and Circle of Love.

Mission Trips

Several of our church members and organizations participate in mission trips annually and as the opportunity arises.  Some of our members have been all over the world to be the hands and feet of Christ to people in places like Nepal, Haiti, and Mexico, and in this country to places like UMCOR’s Sager-Brown Depot in Louisiana and all throughout the Appalachian region.  Two of the annual mission trips sponsored by our church are the Mexico Medical Mission and the Youth Mission trips.

Every year, in the Spring, a team of about 50 volunteers from throughout the surrounding area travel to the State of Puebla in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico, to the towns of Taxoxcac and Ixtepec.  There they provide medical care and material support to thousands of people who would otherwise not have any care at all.  This is also an opportunity to witness to the love of Christ for all of His children and to fellowship with His global church.  SCM has a team of volunteers who are willing to go and serve, with the support of the church through prayer, as well as financial and material donations.

Mission trips are an important part of teaching our young people to have compassion for all of God’s children and to be of service anywhere and everywhere possible.  Your support, whether financial, material, or through prayer, is vital to these trips and very much appreciated!
